Why

Why Jesus?

Because He loves you.

This may seem like a simple cliche—but it is the core of deep truth. You see, no one is born a ‘Christian.’ It was Jesus himself who coined the term born-again. He spoke this to an aged teacher of religious law one night. But the man, a fellow named Nicodemus, questioned Jesus about this, saying, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

Nicodemus was looking at spiritual things with a practical eye. He thought, as all of us do, that it was what one does that makes one a ‘Christian’—”If I act right and believe in God, surely I am a true Believer.” But Jesus pointed out to him the impossibility of ever being ‘good enough’ for God saying, “So must the Son of Man [Jesus] be lifted up [die on the cross], that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.”

A person is “born-again” when they simply receive the gift of eternal life by faith, by believing. The only thing to ‘do’ is … nothing—but to believe that Jesus died on the cross for you, taking your sin and guilt upon himself. Then, on the third day after the crucifixion, he rose from the dead, coming back to life, demonstrating God’s victory over sin.

The very next thing Jesus said to Nicodemus after saying what I quoted above was one of the most well-known verses in the Bible: “For God so loved the world [that means you] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” Do you see now the deep truth that “Jesus loves you?” If you have not already received his love, in faith ask God make you his child and to cause you to be born again.
